Mixed media on canvas
1 x 2.1 m
These works are a response to the works by celebrated Malian photographers; Abdourahmane Sakaly (1926-1988) Adama Kouyate (1928 - present) and Malick Sidibe (1935 – 2016). The photographs immediately reminded Adelaide of images of her mother from the same time period, hence her repeated use of a studio shot of her mother from 1969 when she was 23 years old. She appears and disappears in the works. Sometimes she is fully seen and sometimes she is degraded and only partially seen. But this is part of the beauty and mystery of photography and of human beings.
