Description

In the Adorned series, Àsìkò celebrates both African women and the African culture. From his own experiences and observations as a child respecting his mother, he places women at a point of strength and admiration. “It is an homage to the women in my life. Growing up, my mother was a powerful and strong matriarch. Being raised by such a powerful woman strongly influenced my artistic creations.” In this series, characters are gracious and wear jewelries and amulets. By doing so, he is able to celebrate not only femininity but also blackness in a physical, spiritual and metaphorical context. ”Black skin is beautiful. It is something to be adorned.”
