Elodie Blanchard
Paintings, sculptures
Elodie Blanchard is a Brooklyn based French/American artist who finds beauty in the discarded. Elodie is represented by MTArt Agency. Her materials of choice include discarded clothing, textiles, packaging materials, helium balloons and production leftovers, most often the result of overconsumption. Through material exploration, repurposing, and a near meditative process of repetition, she transforms the rejected and the commonplace into fantastical sculptures, collages and playful environments that gives permission to explore our ambiguous relationship with nature, others, ourselves. Her extreme sewing, embroidering, and layering of various recycled materials allows past stories to blend with new ones, and simultaneously gives an apocalyptic view of the future of our planet and cheerful hope.
Over the course of her career Blanchard has worked in fashion, collaborated with architects, designers, and brands, developing textile collections and working on large scale works for public spaces, institutions, residences, offices, and hotels globally. Blanchard is motivated by personal experiences and the relationship people have with clothes, recognising the power of textiles as signifiers of our individual identities.
She was most recently named “Interiors + Sources” Designer of the Year and Artist in Residence at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.
