Arnaud Lapierre
Art installations
Arnaud Lapierre believes that “art is smart”, meaning that his practice doesn’t only live through pure form but comes to life through composition and construction. Inspired by engineering and archeology, Lapierre’s path started with the technical side of things. Fascinated by the object’s conception, storytelling, and trace, Lapierre was trained at ENSCI/ Les Ateliers de Paris, which focused on the innovative and creative aspect of object making. There, he learned how to go beyond archetypes and break the codes.
At the intersection of functionality and utility on one hand, sensation and beauty on the other, Lapierre uses his practice as an innovative and questioning force. Today, his installations exist to create an experience and engagement for the viewer. Beyond sole contemplation, his work transforms perception and generates reflection. Regularly, his artworks exacerbate epiphenomena, from a simple ray of light to the deconstruction of patterns in the environment of the work. His conception process often starts with writing which enables him to find a narrative for his next project and convey a story.
Since 2010, Lapierre has been dedicating himself to large-scale installations. Driven by a will to create sustainably, he makes sure his creations have a “legitimacy to exist”. His studio relies on three cornerstone principles: “design makes sense” i.e eco-innovation; “art is smart” i.e wonder and contemplation; “experience leads memory ” ie. visual memory. Lapierre aspires to create sensory experiences for the viewer: positioning themselves in relation to his objects. Kinetic by essence, Lapierre’s work, like Ring, Azymut, Mirror Multitude, and Sapin Vert, have all been shaped with mirrors as a key tool in Lapierre’s practice to create visual and sensible experiences. Immersive, playful, and aesthetic, Lapierre brings art to cityscapes. In dialogue with tradition but in line with contemporary social and ecological conversations, Lapierre’s creations surprise and amaze passersby.
