Shana Wilson
PAINTING
Shana Wilson is a Canadian portrait and figurative artist who has been creating powerful portraits of women for over twenty years. Shana is represented by MTArt Agency. Painting inspirational women from all walks of life, Wilson, has focused upon those who have inspired and created genuine social change. Paying tribute to them on canvas, Wilson’s passions lie in capturing long-overdue celebrations of trailblazing women.
Inspired by the ‘#MeToo’ movement and with a desire to give a voice to all women, Wilson collaborated with ‘For Women Who Roar’ to create an exhibition celebrating and empowering women. Wilson wants to flip this artistic marginalisation and change the balance of how women are portrayed in the arts.
Career highlights for Shana included being selected and commissioned by TIME Magazine to paint cover art of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Jackie Kennedy for its monumental ‘100 Women of the Year Special Edition’ and capturing multi-platinum recording artist, Serena Ryder, breast cancer survivor and scar activist Golden Drake and Anita Hill, the first woman to take on the Supreme Court for sexual harassment. Next Wilson has her sights set on the likes of Serena Williams for Nike and female astronaut for NASA. Her artistic goal is to continue to empower women on canvas. A picture says a thousand words, and she has a lot to say.
